Working Hours & Shift Pattern
Full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week, all year round.
Based in Bracknell, Berkshire, RG42.
- Monday-to-Friday nursery environment with no evening or weekend work.
- The nursery operates between 7:30am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.
- Flexibility may be available around working patterns.
- A four-day pattern consisting of longer working days may be considered.
- Work closely with the Nursery Manager and wider leadership team as the baby room develops.
Job Description
As a Baby Room Leader, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of high-quality childcare within a newly established, purpose-built nursery in Bracknell, Berkshire, RG42. This is an exciting nurseries & early years opportunity for an experienced practitioner who wants to influence the continued growth and future direction of a developing baby room. The nursery is a small, close-knit setting caring for up to 57 children each day, allowing practitioners to build strong relationships with individual children and their families. You will take responsibility for a calm and nurturing baby room for children aged from birth to two years.
The room includes separate areas for mobile and non-mobile babies, a dedicated milk kitchen and direct access to an enclosed baby garden where younger children can safely explore the natural environment. You will support babies through consistent routines matched carefully to home life, purposeful play and learning experiences aligned with the EYFS.
The nursery follows a child-centred, curiosity-led and nature-inspired approach to early years education. Children experience a balance of guided activities and self-initiated play, using natural materials and open-ended resources to support imagination, communication, physical development and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the baby room, maintaining a calm, welcoming and well-organised environment.
- Support, mentor and motivate practitioners, promoting consistent standards of childcare across the room.
- Deliver nurturing and developmentally appropriate care for babies aged from birth to two years.
- Plan and oversee engaging learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Use observations and assessments to understand children’s interests, monitor progress and inform planning.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures, nursery policies and Ofsted requirements are consistently followed.
- Support individual feeding, sleeping and care routines that reflect each child’s needs and home life.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, communicating clearly about routines, wellbeing and development.
- Maintain accurate records while ensuring the baby room and milk-preparation facilities meet high hygiene and operational standards.
- Work collaboratively with the Nursery Manager and leadership team to develop the room as nursery occupancy grows.
Requirements
- Right to work: applicants must be able to demonstrate their current right to work in the UK.
- Qualification: a full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification.
- Enhanced DBS check: An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one before employment.
- Experience level: previous Room Leader, Senior Practitioner or supervisory experience within a nursery or early years setting.
- Specialism: practical experience caring for babies, supported by strong knowledge of the EYFS and safeguarding.
- Capability: confidence leading, supporting and developing a team while maintaining accurate records and consistently high standards.
- Soft skill: excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- Independence: able to take ownership of daily room operations while working collaboratively with nursery leadership.
