Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and organised Nursery Cook to join a welcoming nursery (early years) setting in Egham, Surrey (TW20). As the Nursery Cook, you will play a key role in providing nutritious, freshly prepared meals for children, supporting a warm and caring environment where healthy eating and wellbeing are at the heart of the day. The ideal candidate will be proactive, reliable, and passionate about preparing balanced meals that meet a range of dietary needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare balanced, nutritious meals and snacks for children following established menus
- Adapt recipes to meet dietary needs, allergies, and cultural requirements
- Ensure full compliance with Food Hygiene, Safety, and Allergen Regulations
- Maintain excellent cleanliness and organisation across the kitchen at all times
- Complete daily food safety documentation and temperature checks
- Work closely with nursery staff to coordinate mealtimes smoothly
- Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage deliveries efficiently
- Promote healthy eating habits and contribute to menu development
- Ensure safe food storage, labelling, and rotation processes
- Communicate confidently with staff about children’s needs and dietary updates
Requirements
- Food Hygiene & Safety Level 2 (minimum)
- Have the right to work within the UK (no sponsorship available)
- Allergen Awareness training or willingness to complete upon starting
- Experience working as a cook, chef, kitchen assistant, or nursery cook
- Understanding of early years nutrition and dietary requirements
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Passion for preparing fresh, healthy meals for children
- Reliability, consistency, and excellent attention to detail
