Working Hours & Shift Pattern
Full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week.
Based in Harrow, HA2.
- Monday-to-Friday working pattern
- Rotating shifts scheduled between 7:30am and 6:00pm
- The nursery operates for 51 weeks of the year

Job Description
As a Deputy Nursery Manager, you will support the day-to-day leadership of a warm, nurturing nursery in Harrow, HA2. The setting combines Montessori education with the EYFS, creating a hands-on learning environment that encourages independence, curiosity and confidence.You will take responsibility for the management and quality of practice within your room while supporting the Headteacher with the wider operation of the nursery. This is a visible, involved leadership position suited to an experienced childcare professional who enjoys working directly with children, developing colleagues and maintaining consistently high standards.
The nursery provides care and education for children from six months to five years in a bright, homely environment with spacious outdoor areas. Children benefit from creative activities, gardening, sport, active play and a curriculum designed around their individual development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Headteacher with the effective day-to-day management and operation of the nursery
- Lead and line-manage colleagues within your room, setting clear expectations for high-quality childcare and education
- Coordinate short and medium-term planning in line with Montessori principles, the EYFS and children’s individual needs
- Ensure staff prepare and supervise stimulating, age-appropriate learning experiences and activities
- Monitor standards of practice, staff performance and children’s learning and development
- Promote safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR and all relevant childcare legislation, policies and procedures
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, visitors, colleagues and external professionals
- Support staff recruitment, retention, induction, training and continued professional development
- Contribute to internal audits, Ofsted preparation and the completion of agreed action points
- Act on behalf of the Headteacher when required, including attending meetings and resolving queries or concerns professionally
Requirements
- Right to work: Applicants must be able to demonstrate current authorisation to work in the United Kingdom
- Qualification: Level 3 childcare or Early Years qualification, such as NVQ, NNEB, BTEC, MCI Diploma or an equivalent qualification
- Experience level: At least three years’ relevant experience within a day nursery environment, including a minimum of one year in a supervisory position
- Specialism: Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and childcare legislation, with Montessori experience desirable
- Capability: Able to lead a room, supervise staff, coordinate planning and maintain high standards of care, education and compliance
- Soft skill: A professional, flexible and respectful communicator with a genuine passion for children’s learning and development
- Independence: Confident working independently, making sound decisions and deputising for the Headteacher when needed
